Believe it or not more than 4 billion people were affected by disasters the last decade. Natural disasters cannot always be prevented but a lot can be done in order to create a culture of prevention.
Communities have to be sensitised to prevent a hazard from becoming a disaster. People must become aware of the fact that the way they create their cities and organise their way of life affects how everyone reacts and responds to a natural phenomenon such as an earthquake, a tsunami or floods. The students of the first and second grades of our junior high school had the chance after watching a short video created by the UN to express their thought on the way society should react before a disaster comes.
